ABOUT ANDREA HACKL

A PASSION FOR MOVEMENT

A HIGHLY DEVELOPED SENSORIAL AND KINETIC PERCEPTION,

A KEEN EYE FOR VISUAL COMPOSITION,

& A LOVE FOR THE POETIC

Andrea Hackl creates physical and visual poetry. Having a career as dancer and choreographer, her visual work is equally inspired by her kinetic and sensorial perception. She has been producing dance films since more then 10 years – beyond her passion for photography, her first impulse to explore the medium of film arrived when finding herself in an artistic residency in a rural area and deciding to – rather then putting anything into the place – use this medium to create a bridge and bring captured scenes back with her.

Since that first exploration her work has evolved in many ways but nature and a dialogue with landscapes, the earth and the elements have remained central elements in many works – body and landscape intrinsically connected in a poetic dialogue, like expressions of or complementing one another. no space ever just being a chosen ‘setting’. She wants to share an experience with the audience, let the medium of film become sensorial and experiential.

Her films have been presented at festivals world wide, amongst which CINEDANS Amsterdam, POOL Movement Art Film Festival Berlin, In Shadow Lissabon, Cinedanza Modena, Dance Days Chania and many more. in 2021 she received the POOL ARTIST PRIZE for her work and contribution to dance film and, over the years, her films won various awards as BEST DANCE or EXPERIMENTAL FILM or for BEST CHOREOGRAPHY. One special aspect the Juries have been pointing out about her work being the powerful dialogue taking place between all elements; the movement, the camera.
