VISCERAL POETRY & ART AS TRANSFORMATIVE POWER
I am a multi-disciplinary artist, filmmaker and choreographer. I cherish the alchemy of different disciplines and my practice often merges film, expanded cinema & performance, aiming to create poetic, visceral experiences. My practice explores themes of freedom & empowerment, connection and the relationship between humanity and natural environments. Being a woman, creating with and through a female body, my work is feminist in its essence.
The body as medium has an important presence in my work.
My background in dance and somatic practices is forming how I perceive and process the world around me and how I create – it gives a special sensitivity and quality to equally my audio-visual work.
My short films, including THE DISAPPEARANCE OF TIME – that has won the Prix de Angel Orensanz Foundation [Paris/New York], GHOSTS DISSOLVE IN LIGHT – Haiku For Ancestors, BELE BELTZA, Silent Fragments, and Light Rising, express my exploration how to merge a visceral poetic with the cinematic. These works are touring international festivals and have received awards for Best Film, Best Performance/Choreography, and Visual Poetry.
I’ve started to explore the alchemy of multi-channel installations as in my ongoing performance DREAMER, produced through multiple international collaborations. This project allows me to keep exploring the interplay and different dynamics of film, body, space and performance. DREAMER received the Best Interdisciplinary Live Performance Award at Lensdans Festival, Brussels, and is touring to festivals internationally.
While embracing important subjects – such as womanhood – I am deeply inspired by the poetic, mythological and mystic dimension of life, home to our soul and spirit, of connection and a transformational power. To connect with the poetic as place of connection is a political act.
In my practice, an essential drive is always wanting to pierce through to the core and extract the essence. It is always a journey, through an energetic cycle – I feel, to share this is very important: it means connecting to the movement of primal energy. I want to share experiences, to create art that carries this primal and possibly transformative energy – beyond any narrative.
Art is a carrier or conduct for a transformative power. It is a way of embracing and celebrating life.
I do enjoy to work independently on solo projects, which allows me to reflect and listen in a different way – to work very intuitively – and I cherish producing internationally collaborative projects, working with creative partners worldwide. Having my work presented internationally allows me to meet and collaborate with artists and share with diverse communities. My travels, life experiences and creative work are deeply intertwined and these meetings are one of the most enriching aspects of my creative path, nourishing my inspiration and artistic work.
I thrive through international projects & collaboration, using these creative exchanges to produce – metaphorically as well as factually speaking – boundary-crossing projects. I combine artistic vision with practical production, inspired to create projects that are innovative — cinematic and performative experiences that inspire, expand perception, and connect audiences and artists across cultures.
